Alexander Technique

Physiotherapy

The Alexander Technique is a simple and practical method of learning to be poised and to move easily without stiffness or unnecessary effort. It improves coordination, breathing and performance.

Learning the Alexander Technique can help prevent or alleviate conditions associated with undue tension or poor posture. It supports rehabilitation following injury or illness, and teaches management of stress and pain.

Through its emphasis on teaching self-awareness and providing the tools to change unhelpful habits, it enhances performance and effectiveness at work as well as in sports and the performing arts.

Lessons are on a one-to-one basis and the number of lessons required depends on the individual.

In a lesson the teacher uses explanation and a gentle guiding touch to encourage a letting go of unnecessary effort and a gradual change of unhelpful postural habits and ways of moving.
